Waco Sculpture Zoo

SUMMARY

Despite the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the completion of the Waco Sculpture Zoo along the Brazos River trail could not have come at a more opportune time. After opening in February 2020, the installation soon became one of the only opportunities for residents to experience art given public health guidelines at the time. Because of this, the sculpture zoo quickly became a source of delight for people in the community looking to get out of their homes. To complete this project, Creative Waco was adaptable in it’s planning process, working with private funders and the City. The 28-piece installation was originally proposed as 6 sculptures, but additional fundraising and public support more than quadrupled the size of the project.
